The Title Role of Oppenheimer Was Terrifying for Cillian Murphy

MOVIE NEWS – Cillian Murphy has been waiting a long time to get a leading role in one of Christopher Nolan’s films. He is one of the director’s favorite actors, he has appeared in five of his successful films (Batman trilogy, Origins, Dunkirk), but so far he has not taken the lead.

However, Nolan wrote Oppenheimer’s script about the father of the atomic bomb with the Irish actor in mind. “I put a huge burden on this central character,” Nolan told Empire magazine. – It would have always been a huge task to portray this type of hero, but carrying the entire film in a completely subjective way is an extremely trying task. That’s why I thought of Cillian.”

Murphy also told Empire magazine that the character of Oppenheimer was a terrifying challenge because it is exactly the kind of role an actor he only dares to dream for a long time. “A lot of times you get a role that you think you’re going to rock, and hopefully the food will be good on set,” said Murphy. “But it wasn’t like that.” At first I was terrified of the task, but I was also hungry for a great challenge, I wanted to embrace the character and this whole task.”

Nolan considers his new film a thriller because it is not only about how and at what cost the first weapon of mass destruction in history was created, but also about the moral struggle that Oppenheimer He fought with himself, and then he was forced to put on the gloves against the American government, because he was branded as a Soviet agent because of his leftist sympathies, and he was banned from the nuclear program that he had started, among other things.
