Renowned Star of ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Scarface’, Mark Margolis, Passes Away at 83 [VIDEO]

MOVIE NEWS – Mark Margolis, a well-known face for many due to his myriad of film and TV roles, has sadly passed away at the age of 83 following a sudden illness. His most memorable performances that resonated with audiences worldwide were in ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Scarface’.

 

According to the Daily Mail, Margolis died in a New York hospital. His son, Morgan Margolis, along with his mother, were by the actor’s side during his final moments. The family has announced that Margolis will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.

Throughout his career, Mark Margolis appeared in more than a hundred memorable films and stage plays. His career began in the 1970s, with his first significant movie being “The Opening of Misty Beethoven”, an erotic comedy where he worked as a director and scriptwriter as well, showing his versatility that brought him numerous roles throughout the decades.

Over the years, he worked as a theatre actor and appeared in numerous TV shows and films, including ‘Scarface’, a crucial milestone in his career where he played an iconic evil assassin. Another notable performance was alongside Jim Carrey in ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective’, where his comedic skills shone brightly. He also gave a memorable performance in Ridley Scott’s 1992 historical drama, ‘1492: Conquest of Paradise’, a film about the life and discoveries of Christopher Columbus.

His talents weren’t limited to blockbusters, as he also excelled in lower-budget indie films. For example, in the film ‘Pi’, directed by Darren Aronofsky, which explores the boundary between mathematics and mysticism, he received substantial recognition from the industry.

In the series ‘Breaking Bad’ and its prequel, ‘Better Call Saul’, he embodied the character of Hector Salamanca, a former drug baron who was left unable to walk or speak after a stroke.

Margolis’s performance was highly recognized by critics and the industry, earning him nominations for an Emmy award, as well as for Saturn, Gold Derby, and Online Film & Television Association Awards in 2012. The actor had previously shared that seeing the impact of a stroke on a close relative helped him portray the character of Salamanca.
