Five Nights at Freddy’s: The Horror Guru Proves his Mettle Once Again

MOVIE NEWS – If Jason Blum could easily be discouraged from what he does, he would not be one of the most successful Hollywood film producers today. For example, more than a decade and a half ago, when he made his almost zero-budget film Parajelenségék – which was shot in his own house in two weeks using the shaky camera technique then in vogue – he was told that with similar methods Imitating Nervation – The Blair Witch Project won’t kick the ball.

In comparison, Parajelenzegék became a huge success, a franchise developed from it, just like Blum’s other low-budget horror films (Insidious: The Red Door, the fifth part of the series, for example, was released this year) .

But Blum is a much more serious player than that. Over the years, he has received three Oscar® nominations for the original films he directed (Whiplash, Tũnj el!, Chuklyások: BlackkKlansman). And next time, he will make you nervous with a thriller based on a cult video game.

Five Nights at Freddy’s Pizza is a return to roots for Blum, because to a certain extent it develops one of the motifs of Paraphenomena. In the new film, a security guard at a pizzeria fights against terrifying remote-controlled stuffed animals that come to life at night, and which used to entertain children visiting the restaurant.

“Our man watches what’s happening in the building on monitors in his office, and it took me back to Paraphenomenals 2. time: there, too, the shadows of the night appeared simultaneously on many screens before the eyes of the unsuspecting victims – explains Blum in an interview with SlashFilm. “This concept can become a franchise again.”

Blum also testified that defiance and ambition made him such a successful filmmaker, who recorded more than 220 productions in two decades. “We horror filmmakers are not considered cool in Hollywood, even if we can occasionally put something serious on the table with plays like Gone!. But that’s exactly why I like being a horror filmmaker: I keep getting kicked, but I get up and prove myself again.”

Blum is particularly proud that November is his month: it is now a tradition that the new horror films of his studio, Blumhouse, are released during the Halloween season. This year, soon after The Exorcist: The Believer, the bloodthirsty stuffed animals rampaging in the pizzeria will arrive – if things go according to Blum’s intentions, in the first part of the new franchise.
