Has Apple Scrapped Plans For The 14.1″ iPad Pro?

TECH NEWS – The Cupertino-based tech company reportedly planned to release a giant iPad Pro this year but has backed out.

Currently, a giant display tablet that Apple sells under the iPad Pro branding is 12.9″ with a mini-LED display. Writing for Bloomberg, Mark Gurman wrote in his Power On newsletter that the company had planned to unveil a 14.1″ version during 2023, but ultimately scrapped the idea. AppleInsider believes that Apple will instead focus on the 13″ model, which will launch in 2024 with an OLED display and M3 chip. It will also support a redesigned Magic Keyboard featuring an aluminum build, and the trackpad size will be larger than before.

Gurman has not commented on the fate of the 14.1″ iPad Pro, so he has not hinted that it is in development at all, but previous rumors suggest that Apple is still working on it. One said that the larger size would give more display space and run a modified iPadOS, allowing up to two high-resolution displays to be connected.

Another rumor was that Apple would test the larger tablet not with the M3 chip but with the M3 Pro and reserve the base chip for the 13″ model. It’s logical because a more prominent display needs a more powerful spec. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be much point in launching the model, so the heftier price tag would be justified if it goes with the M3 Pro chip. However, there is no word on what kind of display the 14.1″ iPad Pro would get. If the 13″ will be OLED, that would be the minimum for the larger tablet.

All of it is not official yet, but rumors suggest that Apple has been testing prototypes with the more powerful system-on-a-chip (SoC), and it’s unlikely that the company will eventually scrap its plans for the iPad Pro. All we need is time before the M3 and M3 Pro chips are born if we had to guess.
