Will There Be Destructible Environments In Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red?

While Ubisoft is releasing Assassin’s Creed: Mirage in a month, the French publisher is simultaneously holding several AC marshmallows in the fire.

One is Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red (so that’s not the final name yet; it’s an open-world, RPG-style game set in feudal Japan from Ubisoft Quebec), and the other is Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe (a darker take on the European witch hunt from Ubisoft Montréal). Rumors are that the former will be revealed soon.

We’ve already heard that Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red will focus mainly on stealth, and it may take some elements from Splinter Cell (Ubisoft is working on this IP again, don’t forget…), so there will be an opportunity to hide in the shadows. But Tom Henderson has more than that from the game, which hasn’t been revealed in detail yet. According to him, the game will also feature destructible environments. By combining stealth with destruction, you can cut or break through doors to get closer to your opponents, surprising them by attacking them if they are near the door. Henderson quickly added that don’t expect the destructibility you see in Battlefield, so you can’t just break through every wall. Instead, think of the environment as providing much more interaction.

According to Henderson, Assasin’s Creed: Codename Red will have two protagonists, and their gameplay will differ. There will be a male samurai and a female shinobi/ninja. Not much is known about the female character, but the male is said to be an African refugee and based on a real character, Yasuke. He was the first black-skinned samurai documented, and he will attack with force, while the heroine will be more agile.

According to Henderson, Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red will debut in early 2024, and Ubisoft is planning a release for the late 2024 rush for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, as the first part of the AC: Infinity hub. Hopefully, that will happen, while Skull & Bones has been ridiculously delayed for years. Henderson’s information is unofficial!
