Helldivers 2: Was It Worth It For Sony To Release The Game On PC?!

Helldivers 2 is currently the seventh highest-grossing game in Sony’s history in the US…

What Helldivers 2 achieved was well deserved. Based on recent statistics, it seems that Sony decided to release the title on PC on the day of its release as a significant contributor to its success. Analysts estimate that the game has sold 8 million copies. Plus, your journey isn’t over yet! After all, the studio constantly focuses on adding content and staying attractive to new players who want to protect democracy.

Today, the US sales so far were made public, as well as which titles were the best sellers in March 2024 – reports Circana analyst Mat Piscatella.

As expected, Dragon’s Dogma 2 was the best seller of the third month of the year. It was followed by Helldivers 2. However, if we count the first three months of 2024, we see that Arrowhead Game Studios’ PVE shooter generated the most money from both digital and physical sales.

However, Piscatella pointed out on his X/Twitter account that this success is primarily due to PC. “PC has been a huge part of the success of Helldivers II in the US. With PC, Helldivers II is already the 7th highest-grossing Sony-published game in history. Without PC it wouldn’t currently rank among the top 20,” he explains. Additionally, Helldivers 2 “has topped US Steam MAUs every month (including April) since release. Helldivers II’s release on PlayStation and PC was a smash hit,” he says.

However, it should be noted that “the fact that we highlight the success of the PC version does not mean that the PlayStation version was not also successful”. We can’t forget the paradigm shift between consoles and PC either: “PC used to be for the olds. Now consoles are,” writes the expert on Twitter.

As you can see, the podium is rounded out by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Dragon’s Dogma 2, but just below them is Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth, which is estimated to have outsold Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Square Enix’s JRPG dropped to seventh place compared to March. Moreover, “Final Fantasy VII Rebirth currently ranks 14th among all releases in the series in terms of sales and dollars in the US market.”
