Trouble Brewing Around The Last Of Us’ Multiplayer And Season 2

Naughty Dog’s transmedia IP (i.e., not only available as a video game but also already a series, so it’s being used in multiple formats) is facing problems in several ways.

It’s been more than a decade since The Last of Us launched on PlayStation 3, which first received a PlayStation 4 remaster (including the Left Behind DLC), then a PlayStation 5 remaster last year, and a sequel for PlayStation 4 in 2020. Meanwhile, HBO has completed the series’ first season, and Sony has unsurprisingly ordered a second season. The first season came out hand in hand with the remake of the first episode (which hit the stores at full price, which is a bit of a downer since they released the same game for the third time in a decade!)

The remake on PlayStation 5 was good, but the PC port was released in abysmal condition. Meanwhile, what about the IP? The multiplayer mode was omitted from The Last of Us Part 2 because Naughty Dog had a more significant concept planned for it, but since then, the project we’ve dubbed The Last of Us: Factions has yet to be released, and this year, the studio has already said they need more time to show it off. We’ve already written, citing Bloomberg’s report, that Bungie, under Sony, has evaluated the concept, and they didn’t like it very much…

Sony’s live service expansion will include The Last of Us: Factions, which still has some time before it can be released, and in the meantime, there are problems surrounding the second season of the series. Originally due for release in 2025, it has now been delayed indefinitely. Right now, the actors and writers are protesting, and the strike, which has been going on for almost five months, has brought everything to a standstill.

So, who knows when we can expect these products?
