Russia Wants Total Internet Censorship!

The problem is that after eliminating one solution, we still have another one that just popped into our heads. Well, eliminating that one won’t be so easy for them…

RIA, a Russian news agency, reported how the Kremlin wants to prevent Internet users from accessing information that does not coincide with the state (state party…?) views. Therefore, the Russian government (one could say Vladimir Putin, because everyone around him is a puppet, and that goes for his Hungarian counterpart as well) is trying to ban virtual private networks (VPNs), and the ban would come into effect on March 1. Artem Sheikin, a Russian senator, was quoted by RIA as urging Roskomnadzor, the Russian telecom regulator, to block VPNs that provide access to banned material.

The Russian leadership doesn’t like the fact that the war against Ukraine (or, as they call it, special military operation…?), which has been going on for more than a year and a half, is starting to open people’s eyes and they have started to look for alternative voices. For example, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have been banned because of the Russian “extremist law”, but VPNs still allow you to access these sites without any problems.

We would quietly point out that their neighbor China has had the Great Firewall of China for over two decades, and they have also tried in vain to block VPNs, but so far have not been very successful. So what is Putin hoping for? It is simply technically impossible to make VPNs inaccessible unless they are completely disconnected from the world (we wrote about such a threat before, but it was all talk). Oh, and the other solution mentioned at the very beginning: Tor. It’s another way to access this banned content and sites, and restricting it would certainly be beyond the Russians’ capabilities.

And the situation in North Korea is just not what they want to achieve, because people are not brainwashed that way, so we say it will be a hopeless attempt in Russia…
