A tentative release date for the Nintendo Switch 2 (or NG, if that’s the rumored codename for the Switch’s successor) has been leaked.
We have to treat everything discussed in the following paragraphs in a highly hypothetical mode, as these are really just rumors without any credible confirmation from any of the major publications behind them. The Gaming Leaks subreddit is where what SoldierDelta wrote (before he wrote about the Switch successor platform, he leaked Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin) surfaced. He says that there will be some augmented reality features in the Japanese company’s next-gen hardware, perhaps due to the new camera function.
He also talked about the display: he says it won’t be OLED, so even though the third variant of the Switch came out with this type of display (which gives a pretty decent visual), the successor won’t. Or successor, since he reported two versions earlier (and so did we). Pricing hasn’t been set for either version, so the $400/450 could still change. As for the release date, we’ve already written that it could be September 24, but now there’s talk of a backup date!
If the new N platform is not released in September, it could be November 3. We can’t take this date as credible because it’s a Sunday, and we can’t think of a single case where a new console was released on the last day of the week! November 1st or 8th (Friday) would be more realistic, as Nintendo usually releases its first-party, in-house developed games on Fridays…
So forget about the reserve release date, but we can think about the lack of OLED display. This is all unofficial information, and there’s a good chance that the Japanese company won’t unveil the new platform until spring (as they’ve already stated that they won’t release it until the end of March this fiscal year). Let’s hope we won’t be as disappointed as we were with the Wii U…
