Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Huge Hint For The Future Of The Series Hidden In The Game?! [VIDEO]

What looks like a cut-out Assassin’s Creed Mirage post-credit scene could be a massive change in the series’ history…

A video purportedly found in the Assassin’s Creed Mirage files, showing unused post-credits, could hint at a seismic shift in the series’ history. The scene’s filename refers to “Assassin’s Creed Neo”, an internal Ubisoft code name believed to refer to one of several upcoming projects currently in development. So, the big twist discovered here is expected to be something we’ll see more of in future games.

According to a video leaked by Sliderv2, a futuristic radio antenna is hidden in the ninth-century desert of Mirage, which begs the question of when this will actually take place.

A surprising answer is given in the audio of the clip. It features a conversation between two voices, simply labelled “Animus Operator”, who are busy discussing the DNA evidence that makes up the story of Mirage. In a huge twist, the voices reveal that they are from the distant future – as they refer to our 21st century present as ‘ancient history’. One Animus Operator describes today’s Assassin leader, William Miles, as “Assassin Mentor, one of the last before the Great Shift”. “The Shift was 21st century history,” replies the second Animus Operator. “Ancient history.”

Ubisoft has not yet confirmed this footage, although excited fans who are currently discussing the detail do not doubt its authenticity. While this would be a surprising move, it doesn’t seem too out of place in the context of Assassin’s Creed’s already rather enchanted storyline. (Originally, the plan was for Desmond to blow up in a spaceship at the end of Assassin’s Creed 3…)

Why did they cut the futuristic scene from Assassin’s Creed Mirage?

Of course, the fact that it was cut from the final Mirage release raises more questions. Why was it cut? Did Ubisoft decide to change direction? Or was it simply too spoilery, too soon?

The video itself – probably intentionally – raises more questions than answers. What exactly the “Great Shift” is and who these people are remains unclear.

All we do know is that future Assassin’s Creed projects will be part of a more cohesive, ongoing narrative that will be told by the Assassin’s Creed Infinity platform/centre/launch thing that will debut with the next big release in the series.

(It’s currently Assassin’s Creed Codename Red, set in feudal Japan, which fans expect to be released in 2024).

Bringing the “modern-day” Assassin’s Creed into the future would undoubtedly be a significant change. Something that could reignite interest in the metastory of the series. While also acting as a soft reboot to give Ubisoft some breathing room from 15 years of narrative baggage.

It would also allow players to discover a brand new mystery. What happens between our present and the voices of the present when those voices are playing? What is the Great Shift? We hope to have answers to these questions soon…
