MOVIE NEWS – The Walking Dead star stars in a Spider-Man movie that is an exciting take on the classic Peter Parker story from Marvel Comics.

The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs has been cast as Spider-Man in an upcoming fan film. The project approaches the legendary Spider-Man saga in a unique way.

Riggs played the role of Carl Grimes on the popular The Walking Dead and played a major role in the first eight seasons before being killed off. Fans of the actor were shocked by the controversial death of his Walking Dead character and wondered what the future holds for the promising performer. Now, Riggs is fulfilling his desire to play Spider-Man, though not in the projects fans might expect.

The upcoming fan film, not produced by Marvel Studios, stars Riggs as the titular Spider-Man. The film’s writer and director, Andy Chen, has announced that he will bring a horror approach to the classic Peter Parker story. Chen, the mastermind behind the upcoming Spider-Man movie, is an experienced horror director whose short films can be seen on his YouTube channel. It’s not yet clear how exactly he will apply the horror aspect to Peter Parker’s story, but a clip uploaded to Chen’s TikTok revealed that there will be blood involved.

Following his rise to fame on The Walking Dead, Riggs has been involved in a variety of projects ranging from short films to voice acting. However, none of his projects have come close to the fame of AMC’s zombie drama. But at 24, Riggs still has plenty of time to find his acting career. After his character Carl Grimes was bitten by a walker and later written out of the series, many fans were outraged at the writers’ decision to scrap the popular role. Many believed that the young character would be next in line after the inevitable departure of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, but the line of succession took a turn that few expected. In 2018, it was reported that Riggs had auditioned for the role of Spider-Man in the MCU, but was passed over by Tom Holland. Now, the actor plays the lead role of a fan-favorite character with a unique approach.

At a time when MCU fatigue is at an all-time high, Chen and Riggs’ Spider-Man project might come at the perfect time. There is a lot of overlap between the horror, MCU, and The Walking Dead fanbases, creating a good opportunity for a future cult classic. Apart from Chen’s social media posts, little information about the project has come to light. Being a lower-budget short, Riggs is the highest-billed actor attached to the production. The film’s IMDB page lists Kyra Elise Gardner as Mary Jane, Holgie Forrester as Aunt May, and Carl Addicott as Uncle Ben. A release date for the Spider-Man movie has yet to be announced.
