Rockstar has released a reveal trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI a day earlier, offering a first look at the game – an apparent response to the entire video being leaked online…
Rockstar released the Grand Theft Auto VI reveal trailer a day earlier. The first look at the highly anticipated game confirms that GTA VI will be the franchise’s first female protagonist. (As previous leaks and rumours have suggested.) In addition, the critical information that the game is aiming for a 2025 release has been confirmed.
The much-anticipated GTA VI reveal trailer was scheduled to launch on December 5 at 9 a.m. ET.
However, about 16 hours before the scheduled premiere, a low-res version of the full trailer was leaked on Twitter, shared by the now-suspended bootleg account GTA6TrailerLeak.
In apparent response to this move, Rockstar released the full trailer on YouTube a day earlier. The long-awaited first look at Grand Theft Auto VI was cut to the tune of 1989’s Love is a Long Road from Tom Petty’s first solo album, Full Moon Fever. The video begins with a setting of a swamp bridge at sunset before switching to two consecutive glimpses of what appears to be the Vice City Penitentiary. “Lucia, do you know why you are here?” – asks the correctional officer. “Bad luck, I guess,” replies the woman in the orange prison uniform.
What follows is a “Rockstar Games Presents” cover superimposed over an image of what appears to be Vice City Beach. The name of the game’s location is confirmed by a partial shot of a vast Vice City sign halfway through the trailer. The rest of the trailer focuses primarily on showing various aspects of the city and its inhabitants, including swamps, beaches, a nightclub, a ship cruising on viridian waters, and a fair amount of social media posts. (Heavily based on the “typical” Florida/Miami lifestyle in reality…) The Viceport shipyard is also featured in the video, as is the GTA VI version of Ocean Drive bordering Vice City Beach.
The trailer reveals that GTA VI will feature two playable characters who appear to be a couple. Unlike Lucia, during the 91-second video, no one utters the male protagonist’s name. However, according to previous GTA VI leaks, his name is Jason. Regardless of her identity, it looks like GTA VI will be the first game in the franchise to feature a female protagonist.
At the end of the trailer, the official logo of GTA VI appears with the Roman numeral six, which is made in the style of the series, and also reveals that the game’s release is scheduled for 2025.
According to Take-Two’s latest financial reports, the GTA V sequel will be released by the end of the company’s 2025 fiscal year. All of this, along with this release window confirmation, points to the first quarter of 2025. That said, the GTA Online teaser that revealed the planned release date for the GTA VI trailer months earlier included a hint that the game could actually be released on April 1, 2025. However, this theory is still somewhat doubtful. Not least because the specified date coincides with April Fools’ Day…
