Xbox-Exclusive Project Shaolin, The Wu-Tang RPG, Leaks Again

We last heard about the project in 2021… so development should be well underway by then.

Two years ago, we heard about a Wu-Tang Clan action-RPG in the works. At the time, Project Shaolin looked to be a four-player co-op title that would feature replayable dungeons and additional challenges with seasonal content. It was almost like Destiny, but in the guise of an American rap band. But then it all disappeared, and to this day we haven’t heard anything about it, not even more leaks.

But Tom Henderson has revealed new details about the Xbox-exclusive game on Insider Gaming. First he confirmed everything we summarized in the previous paragraph, but then he went on to mention more about the project. Project Shaolin will be a fast-paced, melee combat game with a musical, rhythm-based element. All nine Wu-Tang characters will be playable, but we won’t always have control over them. They can be summoned to attack opponents with much more powerful moves (they used to be called Wu-Gods for this detail).

The game is being developed by Brass Lion Entertainment. This team is based in the USA and Canada and was founded by former BioWare and Bethesda developers. The project is in alpha, so it is still 1-2 years away from release. Of course, it’s questionable whether the game can replicate what we saw in the 2000s, as there was no shortage of rapper-infused games back then, courtesy of Def Jam Vendetta or 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand. Or you could mention the Wu-Tang’s Brawler on the PS1 (although that was essentially an alternate use of Electronic Arts’ last-minute axed Thrill Kill engine).

None of this is official yet. Will it be announced at The Game Awards, or will Microsoft hold off until the summer?
