Baldur’s Gate 3 became the game of the year at The Game Awards 2023!

 

 

To the surprise of many, Baldur’s Gate 3 became the game of the year at The Game Awards 2023. It caps off a hugely successful night for CRPG and its developer, Larian Studios. The game also won Best RPG, Best Multiplayer, Best Community Support, and Gamer Voice. Baldur’s Gate 3 actor Neil Newbon also won Best Actor for his portrayal of Astarion.

Baldur’s Gate 3’s win at The Game Awards comes after winning the ultimate Game of the Year award at the UK’s Golden Joystick Awards – alongside wins in six other categories.

Already preparing for The Game Awards, it was clear that Larian was going to have a great night. After all, it tied for first place with Alan Wake 2 for the most nominations, receiving nominations in eight categories.

However, the smashing success of Baldur’s Gate 3 surprised many. Not because its quality was questioned. But because it belongs to a genre that seems too inaccessible to many to be so widely spread. Instead, Baldur’s Gate 3 was perhaps most drawn to the characters, in addition to dedicated devotees and casual fans of the genre.

And now you can count the award of the game of the year among yours. It’s not a bad feat coming from the revival of a series that hasn’t had a new instalment since Baldur’s Gate 2 came out in 2000. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t worry. You don’t need to have played the previous two games to understand what it’s all about – but you should definitely check them out because they’re great.

With Baldur’s Gate 3 being such a hit, it’s no surprise that the recently added epilogue was so sequel-like. Here, several characters hint at another adventure, and Withers simply tells us to rest while we can because the adventure is not over yet. This could possibly hint at some kind of DLC, although this has not been confirmed yet.

Honestly, with all the updates in Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian should probably get some rest. After all, this way, the team would have time to decide who can take home which trophy. Although it seems that everyone gets…

The news doesn’t stop there. As soon as the show ended, Baldur’s Gate 3 suddenly appeared in the Xbox Store! Larian has now confirmed that the game is out digitally on Xbox, with a physical release coming to all platforms in the new year.
