Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Director Has Apologised For Keeping Us Waiting So Long!

According to Hideaki Itsuno, it really has been too long between the two Dragon’s Dogma releases.

He’s not kidding: the first installment was released in 2012, and it will be a dozen years before the second is released. Almost ten years after its release, Capcom announced in June 2022 that the sequel was finally coming. WCCFTech reported on an interview Itsuno gave to Play magazine. In it, he talked about the time between the two parts, more lifelike pawn reactions, and the lack of seriousness in Capcom’s style.

“I really wanted to be able to make a sequel right after the game came out, so I am sorry for making everyone wait so long. I’ve been so grateful to see so many fans appreciate the quality of the game and support it for so many years. Having fans support the game – both inside Capcom and outside! – is definitely something that helped push the project forward.

We’ve been working on increasing not only the number of different voices for the pawns, but also the variety of different situations they react to, so that you really feel that it’s your unique Arisen that raised that particular pawn, and that it’s a true friend that’s by your side on your adventure, giving you words of advice and encouragement. Thanks to the technological advances of the last ten years, I think we have been able to achieve that.

We used to have multi-day sessions where the team would come up with ideas for things that could happen in the game, and the funniest ideas were always the ones that people came up with when our work kept us up late at night. When it came time to actually implement those ideas, we put aside the question of “Can we really put something this silly in the game?” and put as many of them in the game as possible. I hope you enjoy all these funny moments when you play the game,” Itsuno said.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released on March 24th for PlayStation 5, Xbox One and PC.
