SEGA Has New Games In The Pipeline For Nintendo Switch 2!

Nintendo’s new hardware: Nintendo Switch 2 is rumored to be a serious consideration for the Japanese publisher, with a new installment of its brawler franchise rumored to be in the pipeline…

We recently wrote that Nintendo could unveil the Switch’s officially unnamed successor before the Game Developers Conference in mid-March, and on Twitter, SEGA/Atlus insider Midori gave more details about the Japanese company’s relationship with the console maker. During The Game Awards, SEGA announced that it will be rebooting several of its older IPs, including Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Shinobi, and Crazy Taxi, and that the target platforms include Nintendo’s new hardware!

He added that the new Jet Set Radio will not be a remake (nor a remaster, which SEGA had previously planned), but a reboot (with old and new characters) that will be released sometime in 2026. It was originally supposed to be released in 2027, but the project changed during development, and now there is an initiative within SEGA to reboot many of the earlier games in a new way. On Golden Axe it was reported that this was postponed, but this was later deleted by the insider, but on Reddit what was said was retained (it was due out in 2023, but the plan changed). There is also a remake and reboot initiative for Crazy Taxi, planned for 2027; the project announced at The Game Awards will be a reboot with online elements, not a remake.

He also mentioned Virtua Fighter. This is SEGA’s fighting franchise that has been around for three decades, so the Japanese company could do something with it. Midori says they will, and a reboot is in the works. This one is reportedly not being made at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, but by the crew behind the latest Virtua Fighter games. There will be both single and multiplayer elements, and SEGA wants to appeal to the core (as well as competitive, eSports) gamers.

Sounds exciting.
