Devil May Cry Remake? The Creator Spoke About It! [VIDEO]

The legendary Kamiya Hideki talks about a possible Devil May Cry remake and two other IPs in this video!

Hideki Kamiya is currently not working in the game industry, as he is currently on gardening leave. In other words, he cannot work in the industry for about a year after leaving PlatinumGames. In the meantime, the Japanese developer can be seen on YouTube. He used to be the director of Devil May Cry, Viewtiful and Bayonetta (but only for the first title of each IP), so it’s safe to say that he launched all three IPs.

In the video embedded below, Kamiya responds to the comments. One of them asked if the first Devil May Cry could be remade in any way. Kamiya replied that although there is a Devil May Cry HD Collection that includes the first installment, he would remake the game. He’d do the same with Viewtiful Joe and Bayonetta, and in each case he’d use more modern graphics and more sophisticated game design (Devil May Cry and Bayonetta in particular have seen huge improvements since the beginning!)

Devil May Cry is a very unique game. Not only because it is the first in the franchise, but also because it is an unusual combination. It combines the style of Resident Evil with character-driven, action-packed gameplay that is outdated in terms of game mechanics. The Resident Evil influence is no coincidence: the game originally started out as a concept for Resident Evil 4, but when Kamiya backed out, Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami gave his colleague free rein to create a new IP.

We don’t see much chance of a remake of Devil May Cry, as the IP has been taken over by Hideaki Itsuno, who will soon release Dragon’s Dogma 2, since the second installment, and after a difficult start, the franchise has become quite stylish and polished. Bayonetta was left with Nintendo and PlatinumGames, and Viewtiful Joe is being ignored by Capcom…
