Helldivers 2: This Is Why One Of Arrowhead’s Community Managers Was (Almost) Fired!

Arrowhead Game Studios’ community manager almost lost his job after telling people to give honest reviews – even in the form of review bombing – of the game…

After the protests over the weekend, the biggest concern for Helldivers 2 players is once again within the game. Sony apologized and reversed its decision to require users to create a PSN account to continue playing the game. The situation was a relief for the community but also for the staff at Arrowhead Game Studios. “The team is feeling much better,” Spitz (community manager) explained on the game’s official Discord. He can breathe. He was almost fired for siding with the users, effectively becoming a community idol.

Helldivers 2 CM was almost fired for supporting players

Spitz encouraged players to speak up if they oppose PlayStation Network integration. He claimed that refund requests and negative reviews on Steam were a legitimate way to voice their displeasure with the company’s decision regarding Helldivers 2. He was one of the company’s employees who communicated most closely with the community during the crisis. This almost cost him his job:

“Almost. Not quite. Turns out that telling people to review-bomb and refund a game isn’t a popular decision with the publisher,” he said.

The Arrowhead employee continued, “But I’m still here, and I’m glad that we all made a difference.” He will always be honoured by the commitment and dedication you all have shown to other users. In this sense, although his actions in the whole controversy may seem strange, he actually managed to keep the image of the creators of Helldivers 2 almost intact, pointing out that the decision was Sony’s.

Now that the game is friendly again, the community manager wanted to thank users for their support. He also apologized for the times he didn’t know how to properly serve users. It should be noted that he himself had to go through some difficult moments. According to him, the reaction of the employer and colleagues was “quite wild”. Still, he says it’s all been worth it: “If I have a choice, I’m not going anywhere. This whole situation has only made me love my job, the team and the community even more.
