Has the New Faction for Helldivers 2 been Leaked?

Arrowhead Game Studios’ live service game has been the talk of the town for the past few weeks, but now that the buzz around the PlayStation Network is starting to die down, Helldivers 2 is in the news for a different reason.

Since the release of Helldivers 2, the game’s files have been scrutinized by data miners, and they’ve found some interesting things. For example, there is a faction called Illuminate. This faction hasn’t been announced by Arrowhead yet, but they appeared in the first game along with the Terminids and the Automatons, so it would make sense to see them in the sequel. It would also make sense since only a fraction of players played the first Helldivers compared to the second, so the return of the Illuminate would expand the backstory of Helldivers 2 while keeping the gameplay fresh (the faction in the first episode effectively combined melee and ranged combat).

Reddit’s IronS1ghts leaked the new model from the yet-to-be revealed Illuminate faction. We’ve seen an enemy before, but this appears to be a new model holding a LightSpear weapon. This can be used for more than just melee combat, as it can also emit a beam of light when needed. This makes sense, since Terminids are good at melee and Automatons are considered effective at range, so the Illuminate can really be called a middle ground between the two.

The model seems to be much more detailed though, which means that Arrowhead has been working on it a lot, so it’s pretty close to release, which means that the public will soon be able to invest a few hours in new content, and the studio can finally start repairing the damaged reputation of Helldivers 2, which wasn’t their fault, but Sony’s, as they wanted the mandatory PlayStation Network account, but didn’t take into account that their network isn’t available everywhere.

The Illuminate faction of Helldivers 2 hasn’t been announced yet, so it’s not official!
