Class-Based Multiplayer for The Witcher Spin-Off?

No, it’s not The Witcher 4 (or more precisely, the new trilogy, as CD Projekt RED has named one of their projects!), but another game being worked on by another CD Projekt studio!

The studio in question is working on two games at the same time, both related to Geralt. One of them will be a remake of the first part of The Witcher, but it’s not about that, it’s about the other project. It will be a spin-off, and the studio in question would be The Molasses Flood. The studio has confirmed in a job posting (Senior Combat Designer) that it will have class-based multiplayer gameplay.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and refining their approach to combat and basic combat systems. Design, prototype, implement, and continually balance and improve a wide variety of enemy types, including core enemies and bosses, for shipping. Tweak the combat experience on a micro level: animation length, i-frames, damage amounts, etc. Implement the combat behavior of each character type using techniques such as behavior trees, animation graphics, and blueprints. Help define and develop internal workflows and development tools for AI behaviors and attack patterns.

Work with character art, animation, VFX, and audio to ship characters with world-class presentation and polish. Help balance combat-related systems such as player leveling and experience, weapons, and damage. Create and maintain design documentation and work with production to ensure it can be implemented with available time and resources. Stay in constant communication with the team to get feedback and constantly improve the work.

Where’s the key sentence? “Implement the combat behavior of each character type”. So it could be something like For Honor. We have yet to see any footage of The Molasses Flood’s new project, but we have seen CD Projekt scrap a multiplayer concept before. They originally had something for Cyberpunk 2077…
