MOVIE NEWS – One of cinema’s classic monsters returns in a modern story: The Wolfman is a new 21st-century interpretation of the legend that, alongside the obligatory elements of horror, emphasizes the tragic side of the story.
“This is not a traditional horror film; it has many more layers,” explained lead actor Christopher Abbott to Collider. “The story is frightening, but at the same time, it’s beautifully tragic because the monster is not just a terrifying, bloodthirsty creature; it is also a victim suffering as its loved ones endure unbearable torment. And throughout, there is no knowing how redemption will come for them.”
Abbott stated that the film’s director, Leigh Whannell, approaches the story with the same exceptional sensitivity he applied to The Invisible Man, so he believes that those who liked the previous film will surely love The Wolfman as well. The actor also mentioned that while Whannell employs numerous surprising visual innovations in his film, the transformation of the monster was achieved using the most traditional methods: on filming days, he spent hours in the makeup chair, patiently waiting for every layer of the wolf’s elaborate design to be applied to his face and body.
