We understand that it’s a long-awaited port, but it’s a bit excessive, even greedy, what Rockstar and Take-Two are doing.
So it’s been announced that Red Dead Redemption will be remastered. We’ll list the system requirements here, because it also sheds some interesting light on pricing:
Minimum System Requirements:
- Operating System: Windows 10 x64 (no version number mentioned)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-4670/AMD FX-9590
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960/AMD Radeon R7 360
- DirectX: DX12
- Free disk space: 12 GB
- DirectX compatible sound card
Recommended System Requirements
- Operating System: Windows 10 x64 (version number not specified)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-8500/AMD 5 3500X
- Memory: 8 GB RAM
- Graphics Card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070/AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
- DirectX: DX12
- Free disk space: 12 GB, SSD recommended
- DirectX compatible sound card
So it doesn’t need a very powerful machine. The price was not disclosed at the time of the announcement, but DSOGaming discovered that it was listed on the Epic Games Store: $ 50, for the game released 14 years ago. The same price as on the consoles (okay, right now until October 24th the PlayStation 4 version is $35, but that’s temporary). That’s ridiculously high for such an old title.
Doube Eleven, the company behind the Nintendo Switch/PlayStation 4 version, is responsible for the port. It will support both ultra-wide and super-ultra-wide monitors (21:9, 32:9), 4K and 144Hz, you can play with mouse and keyboard, use Nvidia DLSS 3.7 and AMD FSR 3.0, with the former also allowing frame rate generation, and you can also modify many graphical things (draw distance, shadow quality). But it’s questionable if the Steam Deck will be supported, while the second part is one of the most popular on Valve’s handheld PC.
Red Dead Redemption will be released on PC on October 29th. In any case, if it really costs that much, there’s a lot of greed here, because Grand Theft Auto VI is coming next fall for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, and that’s sure to make the publisher a lot of money…
