Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick believes PCs are an “increasingly important part” of the video game industry, but Grand Theft Auto VI remains unconfirmed beyond PS5 and Xbox Series releases …
Take-Two has been in the news a lot in the past few hours. The owners of Rockstar discussed their short and long-term plans in their latest financial report; among other things, the document confirmed the sale of the Private Division to an unknown company. As expected, the data shared also revolved around the GTA franchise’s business performance. More specifically, they also talked about the current state of Grand Theft Auto VI. Ironically, executives took this moment to acknowledge that the PC ecosystem is becoming increasingly important to the gaming industry. However, they are suspiciously silent about the possible release of the new GTA on PC and its expected date.
Grand Theft Auto VI is currently only confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series.
The community believes that Rockstar will likely release a PC version in the future, but there is no official announcement yet. Nevertheless, Take-Two is aware of the potential inherent in the latter platform: “I do believe in the audience. The audience is going to show up if you have great properties, and so we just have to make sure to be on an array of platforms,” said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, in a telephone conversation with investors.
“If one platform diminishes in value, there’s always another one. So we’re seeing great growth in PC right now, for example. And I have been able to see that open formats would continue to grow. PC is an open format,” he continues. “I do think PC will continue to be a more and more important part of the console business going forward, and that isn’t complicated for us to support at all. So, the bottom line is that we are selective about which platforms we support. We make the tech work when we can make it work as long as the audience is big enough to make that worthwhile.” Based on this, it is logical to assume that GTA VI will reach our computers sooner or later.
It’s also a good sign for Grand Theft Auto VI that Red Dead Redemption has been released on PC
Take-Two and Rockstar are known to take a long time to port their games to PC. The latest example of this is Red Dead Redemption: 14 years after its console release, the developers decided to bring John Marston’s adventure to PC in 2024. The community is more than happy with the move, with the title holding 92% positive reviews on Steam at the time of writing. That said, we can rightly hope that we won’t have to wait 14 years for GTA VI…
