Hideo Kojima arranged for one of his most popular games to come to the Xbox Series X/S at half price…
Today, November 8, marks five years since Death Stranding was released on PS4. The impressive game of Hideo Kojima was later released on PC, but the legendary Japanese developer only announced yesterday that the Director’s Cut version of the adventure will also appear on Xbox Series X/S.
Moreover, the game can now be purchased from the official store of Microsoft’s console at a favourable price of 19.99 euros! Whether the North American company plans to include Hideo Kojima’s blockbuster in Game Pass is unknown. We can remember that the game starring Norman Reedus has already been released on the PC service. However, it has already been confirmed that Death Stranding has arrived on Amazon Luna, so the Director’s Cut version can be played via streaming on compatible devices.
Why is Death Stranding coming to Xbox now?
Many are probably asking themselves whether this represents another shift in PlayStation’s strategy towards Xbox or something else. I prefer the latter. Without going into details, Kojima Productions confirmed in a press release yesterday that the Japanese creator-led development studio now owns all rights to the Death Stranding IP.
This means that we will be able to play Death Stranding 2: On the Beach on Xbox Series X/S without any problems in the future.
At the same time, PlayStation may have also entered into some sort of exclusivity agreement. For now, we can only speculate as we wait for further news. DS2 has already been confirmed for PS5, though no date has been given.
Hideo Kojima is working with Xbox on a groundbreaking game
Hideo Kojima announced his partnership with Microsoft two years ago, centred around Overdose (OD), “a video game like no one has experienced or seen before that will harness the power of the cloud.” Hopefully, we’ll see more Japanese-developed productions on Xbox from here, but we don’t know much for now.
Death Stranding is an open-world adventure game where players are tasked with reconnecting a fractured society after a cataclysmic event, which the game’s title alludes to. “With the shattered remains of humanity’s future in hand, players take on the role of Sam Bridges, who embarks on a mission to bring hope to humanity by connecting the last survivors of a decimated America.”
