Get ready for a blast from the past! Overwatch 2 players can soon dive back into the original 6v6 action, as Overwatch: Classic becomes available from November 12 to December 2, offering a nostalgic journey to the 2016 gameplay experience with original heroes and game balance.
Following in Fortnite’s footsteps, Overwatch 2 has just dropped a surprise that many fans are celebrating. Starting November 12 and running through December 2, the Overwatch: Classic event brings back all the elements of the original Blizzard experience, with 6v6 matches, unrestricted hero selection, and the same chaotic setups that defined the game’s early days.
Available to all Overwatch 2 players, Overwatch: Classic reintroduces iconic heroes and beloved gameplay balances from key moments in the game’s history. This limited-time event brings back abilities and gameplay mechanics not seen for years, reviving the spirited chaos of the game’s launch era. To recall, early Overwatch versions featured a lower cost for ultimate charge, leading to more frequent ultimate use.
The first Overwatch version introduced 21 heroes and 12 maps across four game modes, all of which make a comeback in Overwatch: Classic. Notably, the mode incorporates map redesigns made over the years. “Features like match timing and how elevators work will remain consistent with Overwatch 2’s current game modes,” Blizzard notes.
Overwatch: Classic Might Become a Permanent Feature
While many players are thrilled about Overwatch: Classic, some have voiced disappointment over its limited run. Fans have already started requesting Blizzard to make this nostalgic mode a permanent fixture. For now, the studio plans to analyze player response before making any long-term decisions: “While we don’t intend for this to be a one-time event, we’ll assess feedback to guide our future plans.”
