Onimusha: Way of the Sword has been revealed with a brutal trailer and is aiming to make a big splash in 2026…
Great news for Onimusha fans! Capcom has decided to bring back its legendary action franchise with a new instalment called Onimusha: Way of the Sword, the first trailer of which left us speechless at The Game Awards 2024. The Resident Evil parent company is finally aiming very, very high, with stunning visuals, brutal combat and, as promised, an experience that lives up to the hype.
Players will once again enter a dark fantasy universe to face monstrous creatures in bloody combat. The title will bring back iconic elements from the franchise, such as the Oni Gauntlet introduced in the first Onimusha game. However, it should be noted that it will take time for this new adventure to hit the market. Capcom has decided to delay the release of Onimusha: Way of the Sword until 2026, avoiding the big games already confirmed for next year.
“Onimusha: Way of the Sword is set in Kyoto during the early Edo period,” Capcom explains in a press release.
“During a time of relative peace in Japan, the Miasma has descended upon the ancient city. Kyoto has become an eerie and unsettling place, infected by the demonic Genma. In the first trailer for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a lone samurai armed with the Oni Gauntlet finds himself in fierce, blood-soaked sword duels against these otherworldly, hellish creatures.”
“Each story is shrouded in mystery, danger, and intrigue. Battle the monsters of the underworld known as Genma in a dark fantasy tale. Follow the story of a samurai who possesses the Oni Gauntlet, a mystical relic that grants its wielder the power to slay the Genmas. Our hero continues to search for the reason for the fight through bloody and fierce battles. What fate awaits him at the end of his journey?”
Over 8.7 million units of the Onimusha series have been sold so far
Capcom has taken advantage of this great news to update the sales figures for the entire Onimusha series. As you can read on the website, the action franchise has now sold 8.7 million units since the first title was released in 2001. After all, the series has won the hearts of many gamers with its games and has further expanded its audience with the Netflix animated series…
