Square Enix has clarified that they do not intend to limit Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to just the PS5. The Japanese publisher is focusing on reaching more players globally by making their games available on multiple platforms.
Set for release in February 2024, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has so far been announced exclusively for PlayStation 5. However, Square Enix has revealed their plans to broaden their horizons and distribute their titles more widely. According to the company, today’s competitive gaming market requires developers and publishers to embrace multiplatform strategies to achieve long-term success.
In a recent interview, Yosuke Matsuda, former CEO of Square Enix, emphasized the importance of this approach. “Players are engaging with games across a variety of devices, and we must adapt to this evolving landscape,” Matsuda stated. The publisher’s goal is to reach a global audience without being confined to a single platform.
The Benefits of a Multiplatform Approach
Using Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as an example, Square Enix highlighted how exclusivity can limit their audience. While the PlayStation 5 may be a technological fit, the publisher intends to make their games available on PC and other consoles over time. This shift not only aims to grow their player base but also maximize revenue.
Square Enix’s ambitions extend beyond Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. For other major titles, the publisher also plans to take advantage of the benefits of cross-platform releases. This strategy, they believe, is crucial not only for financial success but also for better catering to the diverse needs of gamers.
For players, this means they are more likely to enjoy Square Enix’s games on their preferred platform. While Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will initially be exclusive to PS5, the publisher intends to expand its availability to additional platforms in the future.
