Alan Wake 2’s Remedy Ambition: Becoming Europe’s Naughty Dog

The director of Alan Wake 2 has big dreams, aiming to shape the studio as the “European Naughty Dog.” Kyle Rowley revealed that Uncharted is one of his favorite games and that he aspires to emulate Naughty Dog’s quality in Alan Wake 2.

Video games often act as a stage for iconic studios to leave their legacy, crafting unforgettable narratives or gameplay moments. Remedy Entertainment and Naughty Dog are both titans of the industry, each defined by their unique storytelling approach. While Naughty Dog represents the pinnacle of PlayStation excellence with hits like The Last of Us and Uncharted, Remedy has captivated players with titles like Control and Alan Wake 2.

Recently, Alan Wake 2 director Kyle Rowley appeared on the Behind The Voice podcast, where he shared insights about his career and inspirations in directing survival horror games. Beginning his journey as a developer on Quantum Break, Rowley drew inspiration from one of his favorite games, Uncharted. This influence led to his vision of crafting games of similar quality and pushing Remedy towards being known as the European counterpart to Naughty Dog.

“We should aspire to be like the European version of Naughty Dog,” Rowley stated (via Tech4Gamers). “That’s what I told Remedy’s lead animator a while back. It would be fantastic to reach that level because these are the kinds of games I love to play.” Remedy has already shown promise in this regard, delivering games with rich narratives and distinctive gameplay.

Remedy’s Future Projects

Remedy’s future looks bright as they continue expanding their Remedy Connected Universe. Control 2, an action RPG, is slated for release post-2025. Additionally, this year will mark the debut of Remedy’s most experimental project, FBC: Firebreak, a co-op multiplayer spin-off of Control. Meanwhile, the Max Payne remakes, financed by Rockstar, are already in active development.
