Ubisoft has announced a new entry in the Might & Magic universe, but excitement quickly turned into disappointment. While Might & Magic Fates might seem intriguing at first, one controversial feature is already stirring up frustration among fans.
It appears Ubisoft just can’t quit blockchain and NFTs: teaming up with Immutable, they unveiled Might & Magic Fates, immediately igniting mixed reactions. Coming to Android and iOS as a free-to-play collectible card game, it might be set in the iconic world, but it strays far from the series’ RPG roots.
Players will align with different factions, collecting cards to engage in quick and strategic battles based on mana and gold mechanics. Heroes will lead the armies, wield artifacts, and tip the scales of battle with special abilities. Although it sounds promising on the surface, another key feature may drive away both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Fates will allow players to trade cards via an external marketplace operated by Immutable. Ubisoft insists that trading is completely optional and won’t create unfair advantages, but the integration of NFT technology has disappointed many loyal fans. A quick glance at Reddit comments shows just how bitter the community reaction is. Still, it’s too early to dismiss the project entirely; time will tell if Ubisoft can keep this new venture alive for long.
Meanwhile, those yearning for a more traditional Might & Magic experience can look forward to Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era, a turn-based strategy game modeled after the legendary Heroes III style, complete with vibrant visuals and unforgettable music.
