Electronic Arts Sees Two Major Titles Underperform!

One of them is not so surprising because we already heard the bad news about it, but the other game is a big surprise!

In its preliminary quarterly financial report, Electronic Arts lowered its expectations for the fiscal year from 7.4-7.7 billion dollars to 7-7.15 billion dollars, as Dragon Age: The Veilguard and EA Sports FC 25 did not deliver what Andrew Wilson’s publisher would have expected. We’ve already heard that BioWare’s game didn’t sell very well, but it’s surprising that the annual soccer game (and gambling game due to Ultimate Team) didn’t do as well…

The sudden sharp drop in expected revenue (potentially over half a billion dollars, and that seems like a significant change in a single fiscal quarter) and the reasons for it are all around us. Electronic Arts said that after two years of double-digit net revenue growth, the Global Football franchise experienced a slowdown in the current fiscal year, while Dragon Age: The Veilguard signed about 1.5 million players during the quarter, nearly 50% below the company’s expectations.

“In the third quarter, we continued to deliver high-quality games and experiences across our portfolio. However, Dragon Age and EA Sports FC 25 fell short of our net bookings expectations. This month, our teams delivered a major gameplay refresh in addition to our annual Team of the Year update in FC 25; positive player feedback and early results are encouraging. We remain confident in our long-term strategy and expect to return to growth in FY26 as we execute against our pipeline,” said Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts.

The company now expects net revenue from its live service, i.e. DLC and microtransactions (Ultimate Team), to decline at a single-digit rate (around 5-7%). The publisher’s share price fell sharply following the release of the preliminary financial report.

Electronic Arts will release its full third quarter financial results on February 4.
