Developers of The Callisto Protocol: Are They Creating a Multiplayer Game?

After The Callisto Protocol and its spin-off, [Redacted], Striking Distance Studios has moved on to something else.

On LinkedIn, Chin Xiang, a designer who previously worked at Respawn, MountainTop, and PartyOnGames, has joined Striking Distance Studios (which is under Krafton, and the same can be said for the relaunched Tango Gameworks, which Microsoft shut down) and mentioned that the team is working on a multiplayer title.

It’s too early to tell what that will be, but looking at the Reddit comments section, there’s not much optimism about what Striking Distance Studios is working on right now. [Redacted] was a roguelike set in the world of The Callisto Protocol, so if they have a multiplayer project in the works, it’s likely to be a live service title. If that doesn’t work out, or at least not the way Krafton expects it to, it wouldn’t be a big surprise to see the publisher eventually shut down the studio. Still, there are lessons to be learned from Electronic Arts: Andrew Wilson, the company’s CEO, complained in the quarterly report that EA Sports FC 25 had underperformed…

If Striking Distance Studios come up with something that fails to engage the audience in the slightest, they can fire the management after 31st Union (2K = Take-Two), because that team also presented a hero shooter a few weeks after the huge Concord debacle, and the audience gave it a yawn at best! If the style was dictated by Krafton, then the publisher’s greed could lead to total failure for the studio. If the multiplayer concept came from the studio, then this could be an attempt at something new.

Whatever is going on behind the gates of Striking Distance Studios, it’s certainly not official yet, and we’ll definitely have to wait for something official from the studio.
