Days Gone’s Broken Road DLC could be the thing that finally makes Bend Studio’s game, which never got a sequel, a blockbuster after all.
Sony has announced that the upcoming Broken Road DLC will include a Horde Assault mode. With the upcoming release, Sony has revealed some new details about the mode. On Steam, Sony has dubbed this a survival arcade mode, so it will set aside the narrative of Days Gone and condense the survival gameplay loop into a 30-minute death match. Players show up on the map as one of Deacon or several other playable characters (including six new ones) and must immediately fight their way through an initial horde just to get to their bike.
They can then explore supply crates containing more powerful weapons to defend themselves. There will also be a new weapon (the flamethrower). The mode is designed to be a more immersive experience than the base game. In addition to a tighter structure, the mode will also increase the size of the hordes. Surviving 30 minutes will spawn an unlimited horde, so it’ll go on from there until you die.
Horde Assault also has a leveling system that provides rewards that can be used in the mode, such as new characters and unique injectors. Injectors follow the concept from the main story and essentially act as game modifiers. There will be more of them and more powerful ones. 12 positive injectors will increase scoring potential while providing more challenge, and 12 negative injectors will do the opposite. For example, wanted starts with the highest intensity horde by default, and exploding freakers thins out the opponent pool.
Though designed as an endgame challenge, it will be available by default and will provide about 10 hours of playtime, according to Sony. The DLC will also include a permadeath, speedrun and photo mode. Days Gone Remastered is coming to PlayStation 5 on April 25, and the DLC will be available on PC alongside the base game from that date.
