“Every fan-favorite bug hasn’t been fixed.” Even after the latest update, Baldur’s Gate 3 still contains the bizarre portrait glitch—much to the amusement of the community. Larian’s not in a rush to remove it, and neither are the fans.
Thousands of players have returned to Baldur’s Gate 3 to explore the new features brought by Patch 8. But while the update adds content and squashes several bugs, one particularly infamous glitch remains untouched—and the community wouldn’t have it any other way. Larian Studios may be working on additional updates to fine-tune the adventure, but many fans are actively hoping that this one bug sticks around forever.
The glitch in question affects the character portraits: instead of showing the intended image, it replaces them with eerie screenshots of party members staring blankly from awkward angles. This isn’t new—it’s been haunting the RPG since 2023, and none of the post-launch updates have managed to get rid of it.
What’s in Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8?
What’s truly strange is that the community doesn’t mind. In fact, they’ve embraced it. Reddit user jSlice_ posted that the glitch is still very much alive in the game post-patch: “Every fan-favorite bug has not been fixed.” The thread quickly filled with players sharing screenshots and laughing at the absurdity of it all. “Honestly, this could be a feature,” one user, Drae-Keer, joked. “At every scene change, there should be a X% chance that his portrait will stare into your soul. Or, in Halsin’s case, show his pecs.”
Humor aside, Patch 8 is a massive update that gives players more reasons to revisit the RPG. The highlights include 12 new subclasses and the addition of a fully functional Photo Mode. All in all, it’s a great excuse to dive back into the Forgotten Realms—even if your companions occasionally give you a soulless stare.
