Bella Ramsey from The Last of Us Has Had Enough of the One Question Everyone Keeps Asking Her

MOVIE NEWS – “It’s kind of fed up with me.” Bella Ramsey, the actress who plays Ellie in The Last of Us, is sick and tired of being asked the same thing again and again: “How did you prepare to portray an older Ellie in season 2?”

One of the major reasons behind the success of The Last of Us on HBO Max lies in the remarkable performances by Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. Their portrayals of Joel and Ellie—marked by raw emotion, believable chemistry, and subtle nuance—were instrumental in drawing audiences into the series from the very beginning. Yet over the past few months, Ramsey has had to deal with a barrage of criticism, making her role even more demanding.

Now that season 2 is in full production and Ellie’s story picks up five years later, there’s one question that’s become Ramsey’s personal nightmare. It concerns her approach to playing the 19-year-old version of Ellie in The Last of Us: Part 2. As reported by The Independent, the actress vented during an interview with Heart Radio about the single question that keeps pushing her over the edge.

This Is the One Question That’s Driving Bella Ramsey Up the Wall

“I’ve just wrapped up a three-week press tour, and this is the most common question I get: ‘So, Bella, Ellie was 14 in season one, now she’s 19 in season two, there’s a five-year age gap — how did you prepare to play an older Ellie in season two?’” Ramsey recalled. Then she let her frustration show: “I’ve grown up! Ellie’s grown up! There’s nothing to tell you! I have nothing to say to you! I’m going to get that question probably every day for the next few weeks, so I don’t want to offend everyone who asks me that question, but that’s the question I’m kind of fed up with.”

HBO’s producers have made it abundantly clear: no matter the time jump, there was never any consideration of recasting Ellie. Ramsey is, and remains, the face of the character, at any age.
