Ben Affleck Reveals the One Thing That Ruined His Time as Batman – And It’s Not What You Think

MOVIE NEWS – Ben Affleck had a fabulous time as Batman, but there’s something that still haunts him about his filming. The star believes that actors (and stuntmen) are not given enough thought when it comes to making their superhero costumes.

While Batman v Superman remains a hot topic among DC fans, many agree that Ben Affleck’s portrayal of the Caped Crusader is among the most faithful to the comics. Seeing him in the gray-toned suit, inspired by Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, was a visual treat—at least for viewers. For Affleck himself, wearing that costume was anything but enjoyable.

“These suits are horrible to wear”

In an interview with GQ, Affleck was asked which Batsuit was his favorite. His answer was surprisingly blunt: none of them. Not because of how they looked—but because of what it felt like to wear them on set.

“I hated those suits. They’re horrible to wear and they heat up fast for one reason: they’re airtight. They’re designed to make you look however they want you to look, but they don’t care about the person inside. So you end up sweating like crazy—it’s like having a bucket of water dumped on you, especially because the hood traps the heat and you feel everything.” — he told GQ.

According to the actor, even top-level stunt professionals struggled to perform in the suit for extended periods. “I’d be in it for 45 or 50 minutes before getting heat exhaustion. Then they’d have to rip it off me.” In his own words: “There’s nothing heroic about putting that thing on. The moment you wear it, you’re drenched and drained.”

Affleck has said on multiple occasions that he enjoyed playing Batman—except during the Justice League reshoots, which coincided with a particularly rough time in his personal life.

It’s unclear whether Robert Pattinson had better luck with his own version of the Batsuit. He’s currently working on the second film in his saga, while DC Studios is also developing a separate Batman reboot as part of the DCU’s new direction. Both projects still seem a long way from hitting theaters.
