Mafia: The Old Country Already in Trouble? PC Gamers Rage Over Denuvo Inclusion!

Mafia: The Old Country has confirmed Denuvo DRM for its PC version, and gamers are furious due to its history of hurting performance.

The release is set: Mafia: The Old Country launches on August 8 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X. While Hangar 13 and 2K Games are hyping up the game with full-blown marketing, one technical detail has ignited backlash among the PC crowd—the inclusion of Denuvo anti-piracy software.

This was spotted on the game’s Steam page, under the main features section, where it confirms that Hangar 13 is implementing the controversial system. Given that 2K has used Denuvo for games like NBA 2K25, this move wasn’t entirely unexpected, but it certainly hasn’t gone over well with PC fans.

Denuvo is infamous in the community for causing various performance issues, including frame drops and input lag. It works by performing real-time validation and encryption processes to ensure users are running legitimate copies, but these processes often strain the system, detracting from the gaming experience.

More on Mafia: The Old Country

As mentioned earlier, Denuvo is just one of several updates recently revealed about Mafia: The Old Country. 2K Games has also highlighted the inclusion of Spanish voiceovers and subtitles. Additionally, Hangar 13 has chosen to move away from open-world gameplay in favor of a more linear, narrative-driven structure this time around.
