MOVIE NEWS – Acclaimed Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, a five-time Oscar nominee, is reuniting with his trusted collaborators for his latest film, Bugonia—a bizarre sci-fi comedy starring Emma Stone in the lead role, marking their fourth collaboration.
Lanthimos and Stone have become one of the most distinctive actor-director duos in modern auteur cinema. Their previous joint efforts—The Favourite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness—earned wide critical acclaim and numerous awards. Bugonia continues that creative partnership while also bringing back two other familiar faces from Lanthimos’s filmography: Jesse Plemons, who appeared in Kinds of Kindness, and Alicia Silverstone, who last worked with the director in 2017’s The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
Bugonia is a surreal reinterpretation of the 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet!. The film follows two paranoid men convinced that aliens are planning to destroy Earth, and that one of them is already among us—disguised as the female CEO of a massive corporation. They decide to kidnap the executive, played by Emma Stone, setting off a wild and twisted mission to save the planet from certain doom.
Bugonia opens in U.S. theaters on November 6, 2025.
