Nintendo Switch 2: Although Take-Two’s Head Is Optimistic, Let’s Not Get Complacent!

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, might be optimistic about the console, but that doesn’t mean everything is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.

During the publisher’s quarterly earnings call, Zelnick addressed an investor question about Nintendo Switch 2 support. He explained that Take-Two plans more serious backing for Nintendo’s new platform, including Borderlands 4, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, and WWE 2K 2025. However, he clarified that not every new game would be ported, and emphasized the value of catalog titles.

“You know, we’re launching four titles with the Nintendo Switch 2, and I think that’s a wider variety of releases than we’ve ever offered before with a new Nintendo platform. Historically, being a third party in the Nintendo business has been challenging. I think Nintendo has been very forthcoming in addressing that, and we’re stepping up too because we’re optimistic about the platform. In terms of what we would bring to any platform, we address it on a case-by-case basis. We obviously want to be where the consumers are. However, we wouldn’t necessarily bring every title to every platform. There are also great catalog opportunities,” Zelnick said.

It’s hard not to assume he was hinting at Grand Theft Auto VI, suggesting Rockstar’s next blockbuster will skip Nintendo’s upcoming system. That wouldn’t be surprising, given GTA’s historical distance from Nintendo consoles. Still, from a business perspective, launching on a console that analysts expect to break sales records would be ideal—though it would likely require serious compromises.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is capable of running high-end games like Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars Outlaws, Hogwarts Legacy, and Elden Ring, so anything is possible. The console launches officially on June 5.
