Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter Brings a Modern Scream Queen to the Dark Side – Ryan Gosling Leads All-New Cast

MOVIE NEWS – Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter has expanded its cast once again as a modern scream queen heads to the galaxy far, far away. Set five years after The Rise of Skywalker, this stand-alone adventure features Ryan Gosling and one of horror’s most recognizable leading ladies in an all-new lineup.

Mia Goth, previously attached to the canceled Mahershala Ali MCU Blade movie, finally finds a starring role in a blockbuster franchise. Fans will soon catch her in a string of high-profile projects: she appears in Guillermo del Toro’s long-awaited Frankenstein (with a recent Netflix trailer teasing Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi), and she’ll join Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey alongside Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Zendaya.

What Is Star Wars: Starfighter?

Plot details for Star Wars: Starfighter are still mostly under wraps, but Shawn Levy’s franchise debut is expected to stand alone, with almost no direct links to previous movies. That’s because the story takes place in a completely unexplored period of Star Wars history. Ryan Gosling will play a character tasked with protecting his young nephew from “evil pursuers”—with Mia Goth among the main antagonists. The official synopsis reads: “Star Wars: Starfighter, directed by Shawn Levy and starring Ryan Gosling, is a standalone adventure set around five years after 2019’s Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. Production begins this Fall, with the film introducing new characters and a never-before-seen era in the saga.”

Starfighter marks the first feature film set after the Battle of Exogel in The Rise of Skywalker. Meanwhile, Lucasfilm is developing a Daisy Ridley–led project where Rey mentors young Jedi years after the First Order’s fall. That movie is separate from Simon Kinberg’s planned trilogy, which aims to launch a new era beyond the Skywalker saga. After years of setbacks, Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm are counting on Starfighter to launch a new wave of films and finally put the divisive Episode 9 behind them.
