Gellért Kádár L. and Mariann Hermányi, Stars of the Hunyadi Series, Take the Lead in Kata Dobó’s New Film “One More Wish”

MOVIE NEWS – The romantic comedy “One More Wish” brings an exciting new genre to the Hungarian film scene. With this story, Megafilm Service returns to the audience-friendly style that captured viewers’ hearts over twenty years ago. The film’s two leads – Mariann Hermányi and L. Gellért Kádár – were announced by the creators on the closing day of the Moz.Go Hungarian Motion Picture Festival.

Dorottya Helmeczy, producer; Kata Dobó, director; and Fruzsina Fili,p line producer, discussed the preparations for “One More Wish,” the secrets of casting, and the autumn shoot on Moz.Go’s final day. It was also revealed that Kata Dobó will appear not only in the director’s chair. Mariann Hermányi, who plays the female lead Juli, greeted the audience with a video message, while L. Gellért Kádár joined the conversation in person and shared how he’s preparing for his role as Karesz, the band’s frontman.

“I’m really happy to be shooting a romcom again; as a university student, I fell in love with Megafilm because it was so clearly audience-focused,” said Dorottya Helmeczy. “The story of One More Wish is aimed primarily at young adults in their twenties and thirties who are looking for their place in the world. I believe dreams can be realized. Juli’s turning point is that when everything goes wrong, she is allowed to change. In hindsight, it’s always easier to see when and how we could have changed our lives,” the producer reflected.

“With this genre, we can reach more people with our message, which is really about learning to love and accept yourself, yourself-the good and the bad, so you can set boundaries, stop blaming the outside world, and finally take control of your life. That’s how you make transformative changes and live the life you truly want,” continued lead director Kata Dobó.

“We want to tell all of this with plenty of humor and emotion, an amazing cast, and wonderful visuals,” said the director, introducing Mariann Hermányi in the lead role. Though Hermányi couldn’t attend the press event in person due to another shoot, she sent greetings in a video message.

“This film’s theme is very close to my heart: what it’s like to wish for something that would fix your life without you having to act. We’ve all been there, and we all realize that in the end, we have to get ourselves out of those tough spots. The path to that realization is both valuable and enlightening,” said Mariann Hermányi in her message.

L. Gellért Kádár made a stylish entrance from backstage, joining the discussion and revealing that, like his character Karesz, he plays many instruments himself. “I’m still getting to know the script, but one thing is clear: Karesz and I have a lot in common. Music is our link – he’s a pro, I don’t see myself that way, I just love making music – but music is what soothes, fills, and moves me,” the actor said.

“When we thought about Juli’s character, I told Kata she had to be a queen – someone who represents, from the first day of prep through the film’s afterlife, that change begins within us. I first met Gellért during the Tündérkert casting, where we looked at him for the role of Báthory. That was in 2019, when Tündérkert didn’t get made, so his casting as Hunyadi was a surprise for me, but it was a good chance to see he’d be a great fit for the honest, romantic lead in One More Wish,” said Helmeczy Dorottya, sharing an exciting tidbit:

“In this story, the world changes with each wish, and in one of those worlds, director Kata Dobó herself will appear. After the film, we can talk about why it’s that world, but for me, it’s a kind of wink between women. I’m truly honored to work with someone like Kata – a reference point for decades – and to share a cinematic world with her.”
