Is Nvidia Building Its AI Computers with the Help of Robots?

TECH NEWS – Nvidia may be preparing to use humanoid robots to assemble its Blackwell servers at a U.S.-based Foxconn facility.

According to Reuters, Nvidia and its contract manufacturer Foxconn are planning to use humanoid robots to build AI servers at Foxconn’s plant in Houston, Texas. Earlier this year, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang noted that the company’s newest Blackwell chips are designed not only for AI workloads but also for processing data used by humanoid robots. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has also voiced support for humanoids and hopes to incorporate them into vehicle production. This would be the first time Foxconn uses humanoid robots in server manufacturing.

Nvidia and Foxconn are reportedly in talks to deploy these robots in Houston. Tesla has shown similar interest, aiming to implement humanoids in its own factories by the end of the year. Policies from the Trump administration encouraged U.S.-based manufacturing, pressuring companies like Nvidia and Foxconn to shift production stateside. Foxconn is reportedly investing $450 million into the Houston site after purchasing land for the facility earlier this year. Tariffs on Mexico also affected the data center supply chain, prompting shifts in production strategies.

Reuters sources believe the robots could begin working in the coming months. Foxconn previously partnered with Chinese firm UBTECH to develop humanoid robots for factory use. It remains unclear whether UBTECH’s models will be used in Houston. Meanwhile, Nvidia continues to be a major player in the humanoid field through its GPU hardware and cloud platforms. The company recently partnered with Hexagon, providing Omniverse, DGX, and AGX platforms for the development of AEON, a humanoid robot designed for industrial and automotive use—carrying heavy loads, identifying defects, and performing precision tasks.

The sources did not confirm exactly which models Foxconn will deploy. However, the robots are expected to build Nvidia’s GB300 Blackwell servers, the company’s most advanced AI platform to date. The GB300 NVL72 configuration combines 72 of the latest Blackwell GPUs and 36 custom Nvidia CPUs, making it one of the most powerful AI server systems in the world.

Foxconn is especially interested in robotic automation at the Houston site due to the plant’s size and age. Nvidia stands to benefit from increased demand for its chips if more humanoids are built and deployed, particularly as they become integral to AI applications.
