After an earlier Nintendo title, another major game has now appeared in Switch 2-related leaks.
Following the recent rating of Pikmin 3 Deluxe, the Pan European Game Information (PEGI) database has now listed a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Splatoon 3 as well. The Switch 2 edition of Pikmin 3 Deluxe has already surfaced in previous reports, and this new entry further strengthens speculation that Nintendo is preparing updated versions of several older titles for its new hardware. Splatoon 3 originally launched on September 9, 2022, for the Nintendo Switch, but Nintendo has yet to officially announce a Switch 2 release.
The Japanese company may reveal the new version during an upcoming Nintendo Direct, possibly as soon as January. It would also fit Nintendo’s recent strategy if the Switch 2 edition were released as a shadow drop, without prior announcement.
Since launch, Splatoon 3 has received regular updates. The latest major update arrived on September 3, while a Switch 2–optimized update was released on June 12. This update improved both visual quality and frame rate on Nintendo’s hybrid console, which launched in June and is widely expected to see a price increase in the near future.
The game’s online 4v4 Turf War mode remains a core attraction, featuring intense matches across a mix of new and returning stages. Alongside its frantic multiplayer, Splatoon 3 also offers a full single-player campaign and an expanded version of the cooperative Salmon Run mode. In the story mode, players fight alongside Agent 3 against the Octarians while uncovering the secrets of Alterna and the mysterious Fuzzy Ooze. Salmon Run tasks players with working together to repel waves of dangerous Salmonid bosses, some of them truly massive.
All signs point toward Splatoon 3 receiving a proper Nintendo Switch 2 Edition update. Based on Nintendo’s approach to the new platform so far, it is also likely that additional content could accompany the upgraded version. Official confirmation may not be far off.
