Sony needs to start talking more about the next main installment of God of War, and not a spin-off.
Although Sony and Santa Monica Studio are working on God of War trilogy remakes, rumors have circulated about an unannounced God of War project that could be revealed soon. News about the rumored game’s reveal came during a busy period for the popular PlayStation series. Following the February 12 State of Play, Sony surprised God of War fans by announcing God of War: Sons of Sparta, a Metroidvania-style prequel to the franchise, on the same day. It follows the trials of a young Kratos as he becomes a fearsome Spartan warrior. Despite mixed reviews, God of War: Sons of Sparta was a huge success for Sony, ranking among the top 20 best-selling games in the United States in February.
While all rumors about the franchise’s future should be taken with a grain of salt, the spirit of Sparta may soon return to the spotlight. In the April 10 episode of the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast, host Tom Henderson stated that he had heard the next God of War game would be announced in April. No official details about the next game have been released yet, but it should not be confused with the God of War Trilogy Remake, which was confirmed during the February 12 State of Play. Kratos’s original voice actor, Terrence “T.C.” Carson, confirmed that he will reprise his role as Kratos in the upcoming remake. However, he added that the project is still in the early stages of development. Therefore, it makes sense that this didn’t surface until now.
There have already been rumors about State of Play, which we’ve written about. It’s reportedly set to air on April 16. It’s likely that the next game will be revealed then. It will probably just be a short teaser, but Sony will at least confirm the project’s existence.
