Resident Evil Requiem: Do the Unused Tracks Also Point to a Mercenaries Mode? [VIDEO]

Capcom is expected to deliver another content update for Resident Evil Requiem within weeks, and the first signs are already suggesting what may be coming.

Resident Evil fans believe that recently datamined music tracks could be hinting at a planned Mercenaries mode for Requiem. Mercenaries is a popular action-focused mode that has appeared in multiple Resident Evil games, challenging players to mow down as many enemies as possible under time pressure. It is also worth remembering that the mode was added to the Resident Evil 4 remake as post-launch content.

The speculation around Resident Evil Requiem took off after a social media user named Syrkov discovered several unused music tracks in the game’s files. As others pointed out in the replies, some of those tracks are unusually fast-paced for Requiem, and a few of them feature what sounds like a ticking effect, which could imply a timer. That kind of mode would fit quite neatly with Capcom’s previously announced “new minigame”, which is planned as DLC for Requiem in May. It is worth recalling what director Koshi Nakanishi said more than a month ago.

“We released an update the other day that addressed a number of issues, and we will continue to work on any remaining bugs and performance problems. But that is not all. We are also planning to add more content. First comes the long-awaited photo mode. On top of that, another surprise is planned for May. We are preparing to add a minigame. We hope we can continue supporting Resident Evil Requiem in a way that lives up to its positive reception. We are also planning additional story content. In that story, we will dive deeper into the world of Requiem. We are working hard on it right now. It will still take a little time, so we ask for your patience, and we hope you will look forward to it”, Nakanishi said.

Hopefully Capcom will not wait much longer before sharing official details, because the Japanese publisher previously promised some kind of surprise for May. With April already nearing its end, the wait should not be much longer.
