Wuchang: Fallen Feathers: Can Digital Bros Save the Chances of a Sequel?

By acquiring the IP, the company now at least has the ability to keep the possibility of a sequel alive, because Digital Bros has secured the rights.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was one of those Souls-like action games that did not become a worldwide sensation, but did not flop either, which is why players were caught off guard earlier this month by reports claiming that the core of the Leenzee Games development team had broken apart. Now, after it briefly looked as though the series might already be finished, hope for a sequel has returned to some degree, because the IP rights to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers have been purchased by Digital Bros, the parent company of the game’s publisher, 505 Games.

According to the press release, the acquisition was worth roughly 4 million euros, and the deal gives Digital Bros full ownership of the IP, allowing it to retain the full value generated across the game’s entire life cycle while eliminating any future royalty obligations to the developer. The statement also says the game achieved strong commercial results, reaching the top of Steam’s global bestseller chart even before launch, and drawing more than 130,000 concurrent users on Steam on release day. It also offers a quick look at how the game has performed since launch, noting that more than 1 million copies had been sold by March 31, 2026, following last year’s release.

Those sales generated more than 30 million euros in revenue after taxes and commissions, reinforcing the product’s strength and its long-term potential. Securing the intellectual property rights will improve Digital Bros’ ability to make timely decisions regarding future development and associated investment. That is the thread fans can now cling to. At the very least, it keeps the door open for another Wuchang game, a door Leenzee had appeared to shut.

Earlier this month, rumors were already circulating that the development team behind Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was being dismantled within Leenzee. According to those reports, the game’s director and development team wanted to create another sequel, while studio leadership wanted to push the company in a different direction and operate more as a support studio instead of committing to another internally developed title. That disagreement between the director and management reportedly led to the director being dismissed, after which the rest of the development team was split up and assigned to different roles inside Leenzee.

That is precisely why hope for another Wuchang game had all but vanished while the IP remained in Leenzee’s hands. Now that the property is fully under the control of Digital Bros and 505 Games, it is at least conceivable that they may try to reassemble a large part of the original development team and give them the chance to produce a sequel, or at minimum find another team capable of launching follow-up development. Of course, Digital Bros may fail to bring the original team back together, may not find another studio willing to take over the project, or may simply be unable to reach an agreement with whichever team it does find. It is also possible this deal is more about ensuring that Digital Bros captures all of the revenue generated by the game’s sales.

Hopefully the situation is not that cynical, and we will soon hear better news regarding a sequel to Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.
