MOVIE NEWS – At first glance, Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt, looks like a classic survival thriller: a plane crash in the desolate Alaskan wilderness, freezing cold and a fight to stay alive. According to the actor, however, the film is not really about that, but about the extraordinary bond between a man and a dog.

Pitt plays James Belmont, a former military commando whose plane crashes in the untouched Alaskan wilderness with his service dog, Odin. The unusual pair must face not only brutal weather and the dangers of an unforgiving landscape, including wolves, but also find their way home. Director David Ayer (Fury, Suicide Squad, The Beekeeper) says the bond between James and Odin is special because neither will abandon the other, and both would give their lives for one another without hesitation.

Pitt fell in love with the story the first time he read the screenplay. As he puts it, Heart of the Beast is “a survival movie on the surface, but really a love story.” The actor believes that dogs’ unconditional love and unwavering loyalty create an extraordinary bond between humans and animals, and that is precisely what gives the spectacular adventure its powerful emotional core.

The production reunites Pitt and Ayer after their work on the 2014 war film Fury. The supporting cast includes Oscar winner J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Spider-Man, Justice League) and Anna Lambe (North of North, True Detective: Night Country).
