HANDHELD NEWS – The latest update to the handheld PC includes many useful improvements, such as Auto Super Resolution.
The ROG Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X handheld PCs recently received a major update that enhances the user experience. Initially, the ROG Xbox Ally lacked plug-and-play functionality, but each subsequent update has brought it closer to delivering console-quality convenience. The new update’s key features are designed to make the user experience as seamless as possible, especially when docking the device to play on a larger monitor or TV.
For instance, playing in docked mode now uses the TV’s resolution by default instead of requiring you to set it manually. Additionally, playing in docked mode automatically activates features built into modern Samsung, LG, and Vizio TVs, such as Auto Low Latency Mode, ALLM, Auto Game Mode on Samsung TVs, and Game/PC Mode on Vizio displays. Pairing an Xbox or Designed for Xbox controller with the ROG Xbox Ally in docked mode is now easier, and the new Gamepad Cursor feature makes using the device’s built-in gamepad controls easier, even in apps that don’t natively support them. One of the most important aspects of the update is that the docked mode experience is much smoother than before.
Another key feature of the update is the introduction of Auto Super Resolution, AutoSR. Currently, this enhancement is available to Xbox Insider users on the ROG Xbox Ally/Ally X in docked mode for games that support a super-resolution feature. AutoSR builds upon existing technology to deliver even better image quality. Games that support AutoSR include Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Forza Horizon 5, Control, DOOM: The Dark Ages, The Outer Worlds 2, Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege.
Other notable improvements include a fix that addresses the organization of the game library on the ROG Ally, allowing players to add, remove, edit, and launch any installed game or app directly from the Xbox interface. This update is scheduled for the end of the month.
