Jordan Peele’s Next Movie Finally Moves Forward After Four Years

MOVIE NEWS – It has been four years since Jordan Peele last directed a feature, Nope, and his next film has repeatedly slipped off the release calendar since then. There is finally positive news now, as Puck News reports that Peele has completed the script, although the plot, title, and cast are still being kept tightly under wraps.

Four years have passed since Jordan Peele’s last movie, Nope, reached theaters, officially making this the longest gap in the director’s filmography. His next feature was originally expected to open over Christmas 2024, but it was delayed following the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Universal Pictures later scheduled the movie for October 23, 2026, only to remove it from the release calendar again in September 2025, with no replacement date announced since.

Puck News has now offered a more encouraging update on the status of Jordan Peele’s next movie. According to the report, the actor-turned-director has finished the script, although plot details are being kept as secret as they have been for all of his directing projects. No title has been revealed yet, while casting and a new release date are expected to emerge in the coming months, with Universal Pictures still set to distribute the movie and continue its long-standing relationship with Peele since Get Out.

Jordan Peele first broke through on the sketch comedy series MadTV, before becoming widely known through his own hugely successful show, Key & Peele, alongside Keegan-Michael Key. He made his directorial debut in 2017 with the horror thriller Get Out, which received near-universal acclaim, earned $255 million worldwide, received four Academy Award nominations, and won Best Original Screenplay. Peele followed that success with Us in 2019 and Nope in 2022, and with only three features, he has already become one of the most important voices in modern horror.

Even without directing a film since 2022, Peele has remained an active producer through his production company, Monkeypaw Productions. Since the release of Nope, he has produced Wendell & Wild, Monkey Man, and Him, while Monkeypaw has also been involved with the Paramount+ reboot of The Twilight Zone, the Prime Video series Hunters, and HBO’s Lovecraft Country. The company also took part in the bidding war for the rights to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, although A24 ultimately secured them.

Peele may still be some time away from his next feature film, but he has no shortage of other projects in the works. One of the most anticipated is the survival horror game OD, which will see him collaborate with Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid, while he is also joining Sam Raimi as a co-producer on Universal Pictures’ upcoming horror thriller Portrait of God. Directed by Dylan Clark, the movie will expand on his viral horror short.
