Fresh reports about another round of Xbox cuts have put Arkane Lyon under intense scrutiny, and the future of Marvel’s Blade has not looked especially secure. Todd Howard has now offered at least one reassuring detail: the game is still being made, and he says the team at Arkane is doing very, very good work.
Rumors surrounding the next wave of potential Xbox cuts have placed Arkane Studios firmly in the spotlight. Only the Lyon branch of the French-American developer remains active after Arkane Austin was shut down in 2024, and several industry reports have named Arkane Lyon among the studios whose future could soon be at risk. That would be disastrous for Marvel’s Blade, a project that still appears to be a long way from release. Todd Howard, however, made a comment in a new Entertainment Weekly interview that gives fans at least some reason for optimism: he has seen the game’s current progress, and based on what he saw, Arkane Lyon is still moving forward.
Arkane Lyon and Marvel’s Blade Are Doing Great, Says Todd Howard
The head of Bethesda Game Studios spoke to Entertainment Weekly about several upcoming projects, including Hideo Kojima’s horror-focused OD, but Marvel’s Blade also came up during the conversation. The game remains in development and Arkane Lyon is still operating normally, yet the extended silence around the project, combined with rumors about the studio potentially being shut down, had led many fans to fear that the game might already have been quietly canceled and that recent months were instead focused on managing the team’s uncertain future.
Howard would not reveal when the public might see more of the game, but he offered a clear update on its status: “I’m not at liberty to say when we’ll see more, but I saw some stuff just yesterday [on May 21] and the folks at Arkane are doing a really, really great job.” That obviously does not settle the question surrounding the studio’s long-term future, but it does mean that Marvel’s Blade was still actively moving through development barely a month ago.
The silence remains worrying, especially because the game may still be much earlier in development than its 2023 reveal suggested. Although it was announced that year, Arkane Lyon’s financial report dated July 10, 2025 indicated that the project had only recently moved beyond its earlier preparatory phase and into active development. In other words, the single-player, third-person action game set in Paris may still need a considerable amount of time before it is ready for a proper reveal, let alone a release.
For now, fans can only wait while Xbox’s internal upheaval keeps adding to the uncertainty. With leadership changes and a broader strategic reset underway, Microsoft’s gaming division is going through a fragile period, and neither Microsoft nor Marvel Games has offered a fresh, detailed official update on the project. Todd Howard’s remarks do at least suggest that Arkane Lyon is not guarding an empty office and a discarded sword: Marvel’s Blade is still alive.
