According to CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels, releasing Hogwarts Legacy 2 “in a couple of years” is “one of the big priorities” for them.
The day has finally come for Warner Bros. to talk about Hogwarts Legacy 2, the sequel to the multi-million-selling fantasy RPG that became the best-selling game of 2023. Although the company’s job offers already suggested that Hogwarts Legacy 2 exists, it seems that the owner of the Harry Potter rights is very committed to the sequel. Yesterday, they discussed how crucial open-world action RPG is to them in the medium and long term.
In connection with this, Warner Bros.’s financial director, Gunnar Wiedenfels, participated in the Bank of America conference. Here, he was asked about the continuation of Hogwarts Legacy. In a nutshell, he said that the company is eyeing the development of the sequel and that it’s a pretty important project for Warner Bros. Moreover, with a few words, he even hinted at the possible time of the appearance.
“Obviously, a successor to ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road,” he said (via Variety).
“So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here,” notes Wiedenfels. Warner Bros.’s games business was previously said to be considering a sale of part of the division. Another alternative the company has considered is to lease its IPs to third-party studios. With that said, it’s good to hear some details about Hogwarts Legacy 2 and what’s on the horizon for the Harry Potter franchise.
The Director’s Cut comes before Hogwarts Legacy 2
With the Harry Potter TV reboot still in the works and targeting a 2026 release date, it looks like Warner Bros. wants to align the release of Hogwarts Legacy 2 with the series. Months ago, we already reported that the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy could come with Unreal Engine 5 based on the details of the job offers. But if you still want to return to the magical world of Avalanche Software, you should know that a Director’s Cut version of Hogwarts Legacy will soon be released with quite a few new features!
